Setting Up Sound System for Speakers
Most churches adjust their sound system for the music. This is understandable since it is usually the first thing that occurs in a service. Unfortunately, some sound engineers set the volume, gain, eq (equalization) and mix, then never change it.
You need different eq settings for vocals and instruments than you do for speaking. You also need different eq settings for different speakers, but especially for men and women. Every person’s voice is different and needs different settings.
There are several ways to approach this:
• Have a different mike for each speaker (one that best fits their voice characteristics)
• Have a different mike eq settings for each speaker
• If multiple people using the same mike, change the settings to match the speaker
I would suggest you have a sound session with each speaker you have at your church.
One by one, have each speak into the mike and make all the mixer adjustments until they have the best sound.
Mark these settings down for each speaker.
Then in each service change the mixer settings based on who is speaking,
In many churches this will mean three changes in settings:
1. For the music
2. For the host/announcements
3. For the preacher.
By doing this you increase the effectiveness of communication.
